Love City Brewing
Founded in the City of Brotherly Love, owners Melissa and Kevin Walter combined their two passions for brewing great craft beer and caring for people to launched Love City Brewing. With a focus on keeping it simple, listening to your customers and creating an inclusive space, craft beer lovers flock from local neighborhoods and out of state to be a part of the Love City community.
How did Love City Brewing get started?
Kevin started brewing with another company, and Melissa had a career in the mental health field before we opened Love City Brewing. We’d always talked about starting a place of our own, and from the beginning, we knew it had to be the kind of place we would love to hang out in. The most important things to us were top-notch beer, a welcoming, inclusive taproom space, and a way to give back to Philadelphia. A place that really blended our two career paths – brewing excellent beer and caring for people. We’ve received so much positive feedback on our beers, staff, space, and our nonprofit giving program.
What is your favorite thing about working at Love City?
When it comes to brewing, Kevin’s favorite part is tweaking a beer formulation until it’s just what he wants it to be. We both really enjoy seeing our staff grow in their roles here. It’s the best feeling in the world when someone comes up with an amazing idea that they developed in their spare time. That level of dedication is so rewarding to see.
What one beer of yours would you want people to try?
Right now, we’d have to say our Deep Cut Pilsner. It’s Kevin’s favorite beer because he’s tinkered with the recipe so much! It’s a dry, crisp Pilsner that we’d hold up against some of the best in the country.
What exciting stuff can we expect from Love City in the near future?
We’ll be releasing some limited canned beers in the next few months. We initially didn’t plan on canning this many products, but with the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve had to get more beer into its most transportation-friendly form. In the next month, look for a kettle-soured fruited beer that blurs the line between it and other alcoholic beverages.
How do you try to differentiate yourselves in a wonderful but burgeoning craft beer market?
The biggest thing we try to do is put our egos aside and listen to the drinkers. For a long time, brewers made the beer that THEY wanted to drink. Now people have so many choices for craft beer, you can’t really do that. We engage with our fans on social media and pay close attention to feedback. And then we try to put the best possible version of our beers into the market.
How can we get our hands on your beer?
We’re very much a local Philadelphia brewery, and most of our products are only available in the Philly metro area. But, we can now ship our beer anywhere in the state of Pennsylvania! Everything is available in our online store (http://lovecitybrewing.com/store). Local folks can pick up beer from our taproom, or have it delivered! Unfortunately, our taproom is currently closed due to COVID-19, but we’re closely monitoring all the state & local guidelines and we’ll be open again as soon as it’s safe.
Check out their tasty craft beers throughout the Philly metro area or at the brewery tap room.

TURMERIFIC! Let's face it. Allagash can do no wrong. Their craft is on point. But when you think about using Turmeric as an ingredient in beer, I had to wonder whether it would work. Their Kurkuma is a saison with an added kick of turmeric. Pouring a mildly hazy straw...
BEST DECADE EVER! Being a 90's kid (eek, showing my age here), I often hark back to the days of living carefree, with no adult responsibilities, no bills to pay, and all the time in the world to just do! So, when I saw Pariah Brewing has an Only 90's Kids Will Get...
RAGIN' GOOD! The humble amber ale. A staple beer that often gets overlooked by the hop bombs and puckering brews. This beer style is often standard fare, brewed to cater for less adventurous drinkers. But in this style lies the beauty of a beverage that is hard to...
